The burglar took beer, waffles, an Xbox system and a 42-inch flat screen TV, but it was the iPhone that was his undoing.
John
Paul Vonlinsowe was arrested after the Apple app "Find My iPhone" lead
Garden City police to a house where officers uncovered loot stolen in
burglaries at two homes in the same neighborhood.
Now the
37-year-old Vonlinsowe is charged with two counts of home invasion
first-degree and one count of entering without breaking with intent to
commit the crime of larceny, which involved entering a detached garage.
He has been bound over for trial after waiving his right to a
preliminary examination during a court appearance on Nov. 24.
Police
said the iPhone was among items taken from a home in the 28400 block of
Donnelly on Nov. 12. A resident called police after discovering a
stranger in her home at approximately 6:15 a.m. The man fled after
stealing the iPhone and other items.
While officers were
investigating that break-in, a resident in the 28400 block of Bock
called police to report an earlier burglary. That caller told police she
had been awakened by her dog around who had become very agitated at
approximately 4:15 a.m. She told police she quieted the dog and was not
aware of the home invasion until she discovered her wallet missing.
Meanwhile,
the owner of the iPhone checked the Apple app online and it pointed to a
house next-door to the home where the other burglary occurred. Police
said they obtained a search warrant and entered a residence in the area
of Bock and Harrison where officers recovered most of the property,
excluding cash that had been taken in the two break-ins.
The
suspect wasn't there. However, based in information provided by the
home's occupants, police set up surveillance and apprehended the suspect
after he was spotted pulling into the Burger King at Ford and Harrison.
Vonlinsowe is currently free after posting $1,000 of the $10,000/10 percent bond.
