The Big Screen BashIBTIMES India
Years ago Samsung launched their first phablets device Note and tasted emmense success. And following that, every company started making their own version of phablets devices and interestingly each of them did so with great results.
Phablet smartphones feature a big screen which helps the user see content on a much wider screen with great visibility. And here are some of the best phablets released this year. We compared each of them and leave the reader to pick the best among them.
Display
Visually all the smartphones here are fairly distinctive. The Motorola Nexus 6 sports the biggest screen. Motorola features a whopping 5.96-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution support of 1440 x 2560 and a pixel density of 493 ppi. Featuring a 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560 and 515 ppi Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy Note 4 has the highest amount of pixel density noticed ever on a phablets device. Though Apple iPhone 6 Plus and HTC One M8 features identical resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, they differ in screen size (5.5-inch vs 5-inch) and pixel density (401 vs 441).
The HTC One M8 5-inch screen is a little smaller than the rest, still we considered the device for its huge fan base. iPhone 6 Plus achieved a decent amount of success after its release but in this competition it features the lowest pixel-density rates than the rest.
Processor
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Motorola Nexus 6 both use a very capable processor Snapdragon 805 SoC along with good selection of memory. It features a Quad-Core Krait 450 CPU at up to 2.7GHz per core and an Adreno 420 GPU which has been coupled with 3GB RAM memory. The Nexus 6 is available with 32 and 64GB option and the phone doesn't feature any extention slot, while the Galaxy Note 4 pairs 32GB of memory with a MicroSD card slot.
On the other hand, iPhone 6 Plus features Apple A8 system-on-chip which is made of a Dual Core 1.4 GHz ARM v8-based processor and a PowerVR GX6450 graphics processor. Paired with 1GB of RAM, the iPhone 6 Plus is available with 16, 64 and 128GB of memory capability.
HTC One M8 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 SoC which features a Quad-Core 2.3 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. It also features 2GB worth of RAM, 32GB internal memory and a MicroSD card slot for increasing more physical storage in the device.
Camera
The HTC One M8 pairs 5 MP rear and a 4 MP camera on the front while the iPhone 6 Plus features an 8 MP camera on the back and a mere 1.2 MP on the front. Motorola has chosen a 13 MP primary camera and a 2 MP camera for the front. Moving ahead of others, the Galaxy Note 4 has paired a 16 MP camera on the back and a 3.7 MP camera on the front.
Battery
Again Motorola and Samsung picked the same battery for Nexus 6 and Galaxy Note 4 phablets- 3220 mAh. The iPhone 6 Plus features a 2915 mAh and One M8 has a 2600 mAh battery.
Featuring high capacity battery doesn't always gives a marathon runtime. Actually it depends on the size and choice of screen, resolution, processor capability, screen on time and type of usage.
Operating System
Nexus 6, Note 4 and One M8 are all based out of the same operating system. Featuring Android, Nexus 6 has the latest 5.0 Lollipop while One M8 and Note 4 both run on Kitkat 4.4. Samsung and HTC both announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop would be available soon. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus features the latest iOS 8.1 operating system.
